![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm not a teacher, but I bet this would be a great book for a class to read. Crazy plot twists with this one-I love it.) And there's a lot to learn, a lot of moral questions raised. Great characters-I wish these people were real, so that I could be friends with them!-and an AMAZING plot that keeps you guessing right up to the end. I'm not going to say "too much" because the smoking is a historical detail, the mention of alcohol really is mention, and as for language, it all depends on your opinion.I don't swear myself, but the few times the characters in this book did, they generally had a good reason (again, it's wartime). (That is probably what bothered me the most-I'm going to cross the bad words out when I re-read this.) There is smoking, appropriate to the time period, and mention of alcohol. I think it made me appreciate my best friend, who also happens to be my twin sister, a lot more! My very favorite part of the story was the friendship between the two girls. There is no real romance, which is refreshing for a YA novel. This is not a children's book-there is some violence and death (after all, it is a war story about a POW). ![]() I think it would be a good book for many adults to read, as well. :) It has been a long time since a book got all of those responses from me.Ĭode Name Verity is a wonderful book. It made me throw it across the room angrily and it also made me keep it next to my bed even after I finished it just to keep me company. This book made me laugh and it made me cry. ![]()
